Be part of a welcoming community!  At Thornton Animal Clinic, you can thrive professionally and enjoy a quality of life too.

We are a small animal clinic with an equine arm to the business, where we focus on attracting and keeping clients who value our services and mutual respect is key.  Our staff is there to support excellent care and the doctor, and we set a friendly and reasonable pace in our days.  (And we still go home on time).

It’s a place that’s so comfortable, you’ll feel right at home.

As part of a smaller town, our practice is deeply committed to being part of the community, providing a spectrum of care, and ensuring owners make informed choices.  We regularly hold fundraising events for local charities and work hard to be part of community initiatives.

What’s the story behind the clinic?

Thornton Animal Hospital has been an established part of the town for several decades.  Recently, Dr. Stefanie Nickerson purchased the clinic, ushering in a new era in the community.  The clients have enjoyed the new modern treatment options and choices, and really appreciate having expertise available to them.

The team at Thornton is younger, and we need and thrive on innovating and bringing new ideas to fruition together.  For example, in January we are overhauling our social media with a marketing team!

  • Company values

    We care deeply about:

    • Being part of the community
    • Offering choices to our clients so they can make the best decision for their pet and them
    • Giving back
    • Fostering a friendly, welcoming workplace and clinic
  • What makes your organization a great place to work?

To put it plainly: our clinic is part of a community that cares.  Our clinic is kind and friendly, and we work hard to support one another and our clients.  Our clients are compliant.  They care about us as people and they care about their pets.

If you’re the kind of person who

    • loves it when clients stop by with their dog to get a treat and drop by cookies,
    • you love hearing about your client and team-mate’s lives
    • having your clients and co-workers wave to you when you’re out and about in town
    • thinking of ways to give back to the community
    • wants to work with a team that has been at the practice for a long time, but is still highly adaptable to change

Then this is the place for you!

  • Describe an ideal employee at your organization

We are seeking someone who is comfortable taking appointments and performing surgeries, who can work confidently with a team of highly trained support staff.

We are looking for someone who loves working at a smaller practice and enjoys chatting with clients, building long term trusting relationships, and who will want to work to maintain the kind and supportive staff culture we have.

We are seeking someone who wants to bring their own skills and interests, and wants to collaborate and bring ideas to make the clinic and work environment the best it can be.

  • Family-friendly initiatives at this workplace

The practice hours would suit a parent who needed to do drop off/pick up or school bus times, and we are able to be flexible with hours.

  • Flexible work initiatives at the workplace

Flexible hours are available to suit schedules; just ask.

Company Description

Where clients know you and thank you for your expertise… a community practice you’ll come home to!

About the clinic and clientele:

Thornton Animal Clinic is deeply rooted in the community with a clientele that most clinics wish they had.  The community has welcomed the new owner (Dr. Nickerson) and new treatment modalities/care with open arms.  We are proudly independent, and we embrace this ability to be nimble and try new things, welcome new traditions, or work with community initiatives without red tape!

We are lucky to have incredible staff members who have been with the clinic for multiple years. Our staff is younger, and all of them have been part of the transition to new ownership, embracing change and new treatment options with eagerness. The clinic is in a phase of growth, and we are excited to be growing the equine side of the business. if equine isn’t your thing, that is perfectly fine as there is no expectation in this role of working on the equine side unless desired.

We have several fabulous emergency clinics nearby, and we do not do on call.

The area (small town feel, close to everything!)

We are close by to Barrie, ON, and only a short drive to Toronto.  Ski hills, hiking, ski-doo/ four wheeler trails, horse trails, and mountain biking surround our area.  If you’re not from the area, Thornton really offers the best of small town living with proximity to all amenities, flights etc.  Our school system is excellent with many great elementary and secondary schools nearby.

Our clients:

Our clients care deeply about our success, and they appreciate our advice and expertise. Many of them are small business owners too, and they “get it”. You’ll hear “thank you” more than anything else, and our clients appreciate being partners in their pet’s health and making informed decisions together with us.  They are kind, and they enjoy talking to our team, stopping by with treats, or to weigh their dog and get a treat to make the pet’s next visit more positive.
