Sharon Cooksey
Sharon qualified as a veterinary surgeon and took up a position at the Royal Veterinary College, UK, initially as an intern, then as a temporary resident in equine surgery. She worked for 17 years as a practising equine (& large animal) vet, with interests in equine surgery and dentistry. She was instrumental in setting up and growing the business of a large equine hospital practice in the Midlands.
In 2007, Sharon moved into the medical instrument industry providing technical support for marketing and sales teams. Subsequently, she held management positions in pharmaceutical (animal health) MNCs, including marketing, product management, sales, technical support, and team leader roles.
Sharon is now a PhD postgrad researcher at the University of Liverpool focussing on occupational psychology, specifically the effect of the implicit achievement motive on working veterinary professionals’ mental health and retention. She also works part-time as a Global Practitioner at the University of Strathclyde Business School teaching MBA and MSc courses.
A significant (and best!) part of all her roles has been teaching/training, coaching, and support for customers (vets, vet nurses, and animal owners), students, and colleagues.
