I am a 2015 veterinary graduate from Bristol and my current role is as a Policy and Public Affairs Officer at the RCVS. After 18 months in practice I was feeling disillusioned and burnt out, and couldn’t see a clinical speciality or being a GP vet for life. I spent months before and after work researching alternative careers, further qualifications and trying to figure out what I enjoyed. The Brexit referendum made me curious as to the impact on the profession from the vote, and I sent an email to the College asking to “see practice” on my day off each week, and this turned into an internship and then became my current position in April 2017. I absolutely love my job and genuinely enjoy going to work, and whilst I still keep a hand in with practice by locuming I get more fulfilment through working on issues affecting the whole profession, and working for a really forward thinking organisation.
