Sophie Jo Walsh
Sophie qualified as a vet from Bristol in 2009, spending her first two years chasing cows around fields in mixed practice in Kent and a further three honing her small animal skills between the Blue Cross in Victoria and Wood Street Vet Hospital, a busy small animal hospital in London. In 2014 the hankering for diversification truly set in, however, and after several months travelling around Africa she took up a place on the MSc in Science Communication at Imperial College. She used it to pursue her creative interests in writing and documentaries, becoming Features Editor of their online science magazine iScience and getting to grips with film cameras. After a summer placement at Windfall Films as a researcher on the BBC4 programme 'A Year in the Garden' with Chris Packham, she started full time at the BBC's Science Unit and has been working as a researcher on their long running science documentary strand Horizon since February 2017. She does, however, remain a glutton for punishment- continuing to locum as a small animal vet at weekends and taking every opportunity to wave at and talk to dogs.
