The School of Veterinary Science sits in the Institute of Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences, in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The Department of Small Animal Clinical Science is the organisational unit for these posts.

The current Head of School is Professor Paul Lunn, and the current head of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Science is Professor Tom Maddox.
We invite applications for the post of Academic Teacher / Research Training post, for a fixed term of 3 years.
The duties are 70% teaching and 30% research Department of Veterinary Anatomy Physiology and Pathology (VAPP) in the School of Veterinary Science.
The post is available from 1st September 2025.
This post will be based mainly in our Liverpool campus with some time spent at our Leahurst campus and sits in VAPP.

This is a teaching / training post, and applications are invited from Veterinary Surgeons who have an interest in veterinary education and would like to undertake an MPhil on that subject.
In year one, your will enrol for the Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP); a specialist level seven teaching qualification accredited by Advance HE. It is a two-module course completed part-time over two years and enables participants to improve their knowledge and skills in learning, teaching and assessment.
In year two, your will enrol for a part-time MPhil project in veterinary education with supervision provided within VAPP and the School of Veterinary Science. You will decide on research project towards the end of year one. It will build on our current projects into student learning in the early years of the veterinary curriculum and will embed with teaching activities.
You will be required to teach preclinical veterinary students at the main university campus in Liverpool. Where possible you will contribute to core School activities such as helping with admissions, assessment and student support.
You will work alongside a team of senior academic staff.
You will:
- Carry out face to face practical class-based teaching of gross anatomy.
- Carry out small group face to face teaching in physiology, clinical and professional skills.
- Show initiative, creativity and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to teaching and learning support, and scholarly activities.
- Participate in assessing students in university practical and written examinations.
- There is scope within the role to take on further responsibilities.
Fees are covered for Academic Teacher / MPhil students, who are also allowed a small budget for research expenses. Each MPhil training post is strictly fixed-term and due to end no later than three years after the start date.
Any delays in the advancement of MPhil related research duties cannot be accommodated by an extension of contract.
