Fish veterinary surgeon

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced veterinary surgeon to join the health and welfare team at Mowi Ireland.

The successful candidate will join Mowi health team, currently composed of a health team manager and several biologists looking after the health and welfare of all Mowi Ireland farmed salmon and cleaner fish stocks. The new fish veterinarian will work closely with the Area and site production Managers in the west and south-west of Ireland. This offers a great opportunity for experienced animal health professionals.

The successful applicant will report to our Fish Health Manager.

• Visits to Mowi production sites as a prescribing veterinary surgeon and in a health advisor capacity.
• Clinical examination of fish, diagnostic sampling, biosecurity assessment, basic field epidemiology and providing strategic advice to Mowi operations.
• Contribution to the management of clinical services in compliance with all necessary governmental, corporate, and certification regulations.
• Writing prescriptions for medicinal treatments when required.
• Provision of fish health and welfare training to the team, including health observers on site, production staff and new recruits.
• Project work including retrospective review of disease or performance issues on farms, involvement in clinical trials and research collaborations with industry and academic partners.
• Expectation to participate and positively contribute towards decision-making with respect to regional health issues.

• Aptitude for working independently and being resourceful with strong organisational and time management skills as the role requires working at your own initiative.
• Able to communicate effectively and work as a team within the company; a good communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to explain and respond to complex disease scenarios and confident to perform public speaking internally and externally.
• Comfortable working in a farm environment and flexibility to travel to remote regions of  Ireland, with several days at a time spent travelling and/or occasional travel outside of normal business hours.
