We have been saving animals for almost 200 years. We were founded in a London coffee shop in 1824. The men present knew they were creating the world's first animal welfare charity, but they couldn't have imagined the size and shape that the charity would become today.

Back then we were the SPCA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Royal patronage followed in 1837 and Queen Victoria gave permission to add the royal R in 1840, making us the RSPCA as we're known worldwide today.

Organisation Aims and Mission

Our vision is a world where all animals are respected and treated with kindness and compassion. Our mission is to ensure animals have a good life by rescuing and caring for those in need, by advocating on behalf of all animals and by inspiring everyone to treat them with compassion and respect. Our strategy to 2030 will build on this strong platform as we look towards our 200th anniversary in 2024 and the years that follow.

RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre is one of the four wildlife centres of the RSPCA. We rehabilitate and release British wildlife, ranging from mice, birds, hedgehogs, badgers, deer to seals. We are the largest seal rehabilitation centre in the U.K.

We take a holistic and team-based approach to individual animal treatment and recognise the importance of committing as much time as we can to focussing on the welfare of the animals that come into our care. This means that you get to work with some amazing, passionate, and supportive team members to focus on what is best for the animals you see.

In wildlife centres, the senior clinician is the named veterinary surgeon for the site's RCVS Registered Practice Premise and is responsible for the site's management and audit of veterinary medicines in line with RSPCA processes and regulatory requirements. This includes facilitation of VMD inspections, with compliance supported by the Wildlife Centre manager.

The Senior Clinician is also responsible for the site's compliance with wider legislation relevant to the provision of veterinary care, ensuring the maintenance of site standards to the equivalent of at least Core Standards of the RCVS Veterinary Practice Standards scheme where relevant.

The Senior Clinician will manage veterinary staff, lead on veterinary SOPs, protocols, veterinary administration, be the lead Radiation Protection Advisor and oversee animal cases ensuring high standards of animal welfare. In addition the senior clinician will be responsible for training of our staff and partners where appropriate, amongst other responsibilities.

We're looking for a pragmatic Senior Clinician with experience of working in a charity or shelter medicine environment.

This role requires expertise and experience of clinical leadership that enhances patient care and of leading a high performing team.

Additionally you will need:

  • Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Previous clinical experience and/or additional qualifications.
  • Good standard of presentation.
  • Professional approach to veterinary care and clinic practice.
  • A conscientious  approach to work.
  • The ability to work efficiently, safely and well under time pressures.

Salary: £50,000 to £60,000
