Veterinary Teaching Fellow

We are recruiting several part-time positions to join the School of Veterinary Medicine and support our academic team to deliver practical sessions such as clinical skills and animal handling teaching. 

The roles may also involve supporting teaching and educational activities at external or off-site locations. 

Successful candidates may also be involved in student selection events, student assessments, and preparing and supporting students on their placements.

These posts are to support teaching during Semester 1 (October-December 2026). Applicants should consider their availability during this period, as we would ideally be looking for individuals who can offer a half or full day per week across several weeks of the semester.

1. Support the delivery of the BVMS undergraduate programme. 
2. Work with University of Lancashire academic lecturers to support teaching sessions and facilitate student learning across University and external settings (e.g. clinical skills, animal handling/husbandry, TBL/CBL and laboratory sessions, and relevant off-site educational activities and visits). 
3. Utilise clinical expertise and experience to coach and mentor students to develop their skills. 
4. Demonstrate correct execution of clinical procedures and handling of animals. 
5. Contribute to teaching and assessment of veterinary students’ clinical proficiency. 
6. Support teaching and educational activities across the Preston and Myerscough campuses and farms, as well as relevant external and off-site educational visits and activities. 
7. Provide support for BVMS selection events (e.g. MMIs). 
8. Provide support for BVMS assessment events (e.g. OSPEs, OSCEs, DOPS, exam invigilation). 
9. Abide by and champion health and safety protocols. 
10. Contribute to quality assurance and enhancement systems to ensure high standards are maintained and the student experience is optimised.

Applicants must be a registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) or Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) (or eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). 

You must have experience of working within a clinical veterinary setting and knowledge of current UK veterinary practice.

No previous teaching experience is required, just a passion for veterinary medicine, veterinary education, and support of our students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (Essential)

• Experience working in a clinical veterinary setting (Application/Interview). 
• Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) or Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) or eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) (Application). 
• Knowledge of current UK veterinary practice (Application/Interview). 
• Ability to translate complex clinical concepts to aid the understanding of others (Application/Interview). 
• Able to support an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and able to participate (Interview). 
• Understands the University’s values and can work in line with expected professional behaviours (Interview).

Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (Desirable)

• Knowledge of current UK veterinary education (Application/Interview).

• Hours: 7.40 hours per week 
• Salary: £35,608 to £41,064 per annum pro rata
