Hi, I’m Lucy, a veterinary surgeon turned university lecturer and mindfulness coach 👋
When I worked in practice, I didn't think mindfulness helped people like me.
I liked the idea of feeling calm under pressure, enjoying the consult in front of me rather than worrying about the 3-legged gecko coming in later, and not judging myself if an owner declined the treatment choice I recommended. But I didn’t think that was possible for people like me.
I’ve since learned that mindfulness is a simple tool that can be applied to all of these aspects. And that change is possible, it's just a case of training our brains.
What makes my coaching unique is its simplicity.
Learn one tool (how to be mindful) and use it to tackle stress, imposter syndrome, the pressure to be perfect, decision making, guilt… When I was in practice, I didn't understand how it could help in so many situations; that's exactly what I teach others and it means the benefits compound over time.

In the veterinary profession, we all work too hard not to enjoy it. Yes, it’s going to be stressful sometimes, it’s going to be hard sometimes, but everyone deserves to feel proud of themselves for a job well done (even if the outcome wasn’t what we’d hoped).
I wish I’d known that you can learn to trust yourself, how to switch off after work, how to let go of perfectionism. I thought these things were just “part of who I was”. The Mindful Living Academy exists to teach people those skills.
