    Organisational background

Valley Vets was first established in the small Welsh Valleys’ town of Ystrad Mynach, in the 1940s. The business has expanded gradually over the last 70 years and today has a large, state of the art hospital in Cardiff, as well as four self-sufficient branch practices in the surrounding South Wales Valley area.

Valley Vets has always been a forward-thinking practice, being the first clinic in Wales to have an exotics service in the 1990s, as well as opening the first 24hr, dedicated emergency veterinary service in the UK: V.E.T.S.

We continue to be at the forefront of veterinary care with the 2019 launch of Valley Veterinary Hospital. VVH is the only facility of its kind in Wales: a busy, multi-disciplinary referral hospital that also provides 24/7 emergency care to patients from 40 practices across South Wales. We have a referral team made up of certificate holders in small animal surgery, medicine, imaging, dentistry, and ECC; as well as a diplomat-led exotics department.

    Organisation aims & mission

Valley Vets’ aim is to be a truly patient-focused, client-focused and high-performing practice.

When we say that we want to be “high performing”; it doesn’t mean working to sales targets but simply that we aim to be a progressive, dynamic and cutting-edge veterinary practice that high-performing people of every background want to join, and other veterinary practices seek to copy.

At Valley Vets, it is not just what you do that is important, but how you go about achieving it.

  • Company values

Valley Vets culture is one that values not only our patients and clients but our team as well.

Team Care – We truly believe that by looking after our teams, the highest levels of patient care will naturally follow. We strive to provide an environment that encourages people to achieve their full potential, embark on further study, if desired, and progress in their chosen career pathways. We are proud to offer a great work-life balance, which can be tailored to suit each candidate’s preferences, and endeavour to support team well-being both within and outside the workplace.

Patient Care – Across the whole team, our aim is to provide the best veterinary care possible to our patients, whether that be within our first opinion, referral or ECC clinics. The clinical team are constantly striving to advance their knowledge and advance the services we are able to offer to our patients, through relevant CPD, certificate study and regular clinical meetings to share knowledge and ideas.

Client Care – We pride ourselves on offering an exceptionally high level of care to our clients. Our team are committed to ensuring a client’s experience is a positive one as they move through different areas of the practice and the services we provide. Our clients enjoy regular communications on their pet’s care, whether that is a speedy turnaround of outpatient results or regular inpatient updates; we work to ensure clients feel valued.

As much as great client care is a core value at the practice, we are very clear that this is not to be to the detriment of the team. We aren’t afraid to ask clients to seek alternative veterinary care if their conduct has been inappropriate.

  • What makes your organization a great place to work?

In three words: People, Location, Facilities!

    People

Our team are what makes Valley Vets such a special place to work. Every single member of staff strives to do their best for each other, the patients under their care, and their owners. Valley would simply not be Valley without its people. We are all working towards a common goal of being the best we can be, and pushing the veterinary services in our area to a new level by supporting every employee to achieve their full potential.

    Location

We feel privileged to be based in such a diverse area! We know every job advert harps on about how amazing the local area is, but South Wales and in particular, Cardiff and its surroundings, really are something very special.

Whether you love the buzz of city life or crave tranquillity and nature at your doorstep, you’ll be able to base yourself somewhere that fulfils your cravings all within easy commuting distance of our practices.

South Wales can provide a vibrant urban lifestyle, along with amazing sporting facilities in Cardiff: the Principality Stadium being at the very heart of the city, as well as the International Sports Village and White Water Centre at Cardiff Bay.

But, if peace and tranquillity are what you’re after, you can head a few miles out of town and be in beautiful coastal or mountain locations- with the gorgeous coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan and the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, all within 30 – 45 minutes of us.

    Facilities

Where do we start? Our branch practices are fully equipped with all the modern kit you would expect! They aren’t your basic satellite clinics that feed into a hospital site: they are fully functional, fully equipped and self-sufficient practices that have the backup and support of the hospital site when needed.

Standard branch facilities include digital x-ray and dental x-ray, blood analysers, ultrasound and access to shared radiosurgery units.

The hospital site boasts a CT scanner, advanced ultrasonography equipment, endosurgery facilities, extensive blood analysis equipment, dedicated orthopaedic, soft tissue and exotic theatres, as well as a dedicated dental suite. We will also be looking to relaunch our in-house hydrotherapy service in the near future.

  • Describe an ideal employee at your organization

We are looking for employees that want to be part of something special, and who share our passions for providing the best possible care for our patients and their owners.

We are looking for people who:
