  • Company overview

Howells Veterinary Services Ltd. was established in 2000 by husband-and-wife team, Mark & Christine Howells.
The practice now has four additional Directors both clinical and non-clinical to ensure the practice is balanced and develops in a holistic way. We are a very ‘mixed’ practice, looking after pets, all farm animals, and horses.

In 2010 we moved into our new, purpose-built premises.

In order to give a full service to our farm clients, we also have our large farm dispensary which is complemented by a van delivery service to all our clients, and sister company Roxby Farm Supplies offering disinfectants, water sanitation and dairy chemicals.

For the small animal department, we have three consulting rooms, a dedicated theatre for sterile surgery, and separate rooms for both diagnostic imaging and dental procedures.

Our mixed veterinary surgeons service all of our large and small animal clients while pursuing their own individual interests.

As the business has grown, we now also have some single species vets, in the pig, poultry, and small animal departments.

    Aims and mission

To provide a good quality, independent and local service to large and small animal clients alike.

We aim to provide a varied and fulfilling career for our team.

  • Company values
    • Positive can-do attitude.
    • Working as a team across the organisation to achieve good outcomes.
    • Variety is the spice of life.
    • Directors mucking in. No higher hierarchy of work.
    • All clinical work is valued to the same level, whether is it a pedigree commercial herd or a smallholder with 3 animals. All of our vets get stuck in regardless of their position in the practice. We pride ourselves on being inclusive and we actively encourage our less experienced vets to get involved in herd and flock health.

  • What makes your organization a great place to work?

We are a friendly practice with an ample supply of bacon sandwiches at breakfast meetings.

You will get the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the practice while furthering your own professional interests. Further qualifications such as certificates and diplomas are actively encouraged. Rest assured this is a mixed practice where everyone gets equal clinical opportunities.

Maintaining a mixed role allows a large team on the out of hours rota, providing plenty of weekends off, and flexibility for on call swaps.

  • Describe an ideal employee at your organization

A good all-rounder clinically, competent in routine procedures and first opinion work.

Friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic, with a good attitude towards learning new clinical skills and species. Willing to muck in with all aspects of the practice.
