Watch back our Interview the Team:

The Dick Vet Equine Practice works closely with the Dick Vet Equine Hospital as part of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. The R(D)SVS sits within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine as part of the University of Edinburgh.

    Organisation aims and mission

We aim to provide excellent first opinion veterinary care and to train the next generation of vets to be confident and compassionate.

  • Company values

We place a high value on mutual respect and trust, and have a lovely close-knit team to show for it. We see the benefits of continued learning for our employees, clients, patients and students.

  • What makes your organization a great place to work?

The best thing about working in the Dick Vet Equine Practice is the people, both within and out with the practice. We enjoy a wide range of top quality equipment and a broad client base who value the service we provide. There are also generous holiday allowances and HR policies, should you require them.

  • Describe an ideal employee at your organization

We would like a personable, positive, hard-working team member. It would be great if they brought lots of ideas and skills of their own, but we also want them to be keen to learn whilst with us.

  • Family-friendly initiatives at this workplace

We have generous policies on parental leave (both parents), sick pay, compassionate leave and understand that the unexpected should be expected when families are involved!

  • Flexible work initiatives at the workplace

The nature of ambulatory practice prevents us being able to offer as much flexibility as we would like, but part time working is sometimes possible and all requests are considered thoroughly.

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives you have

EDI is at the centre of everything that we do as a University and Campus with respect to students and staff.  It is fundamentally important for the success of the campus.

  • Sustainability initiatives you have in the workplace

We have introduced Area Days in an attempt to reduce miles driven.  We recycle wherever possible and minimise waste.

  • Structured career progression initiatives at the workplace

Annual appraisals promote employees to think about their career progression and personal development. There is a structured pay scale and transparent grading system.

  • Animal welfare policies and/or lowering barriers to care/spectrum of care initiatives

We work closely with a Behaviour Specialist in order to provide care with minimal stress to the patients, which has the additional benefit of improving vet safety.
